University of Georgia Party Ends In Disaster

A college party over the weekend led to the detriment of many of its attendees. With 500 people on the guestlist, something was bound to happen.

A police report recorded that a floor collapse led to 25 partygoers being injured. This University of Georiga party happened off-campus at a nearby two-story house. From cuts and bruises to a potential bone fracture, the authorities say this could have been much worse.

Capt. Nate Moss of the Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services Department told ABC News that, "We are grateful that this unexpected event didn’t turn out any worse than it did. Many times, overcrowding can result in collapses of decks and flooring, especially in older structures. The thing that helped, in this case, was the lack of elevation. These folks should consider themselves fortunate."

Because of the mass amount of people, this led to difficulties for police and the fire department to reach the house and help the injured co-eds.

In a news release: "When our crews finally made it to the home, they found a two-story home over a high crawl space. The majority of the first floor had collapsed into the crawl space due to dozens of people who had overcrowded the space while having a party.”
